It is very natural that the primary department of the institution, which completed 20 years in 1996, felt like evaluating the service achievements achieved so far. It was very important for future planning to know and understand what children gain and at what cost .To our utter disbelief,it was found that many of our past students were unemployed and were a burden on their family. On the same day of the meeting, it was decided to build an industrial school equipped with modern equipment for the deaf. After organizing it, the construction of the vocational training and rehabilitation center was in full swing within a short period of two years. With the generous support of the trust of the famous philanthropist of Gujarat, Shri Gordhanbhai Hathitbhai Patel, the work gained momentum and Shri G.H. Patel Deaf Vocational Training and Rehabilitation Center was started in his holy name. With the financial support of Mrs. Taraben Vitthalbhai Patel, the Mrs. Taraben Vitthalbhai Patel Workshop was started iehernante. Apart from this, with the significant financial support of other donors, Mr. Dinsha Patel, Mr. Brahmakumar Bhatt, Gujarat State Fertilizer Company, United Mercantile Co.0. Bank Ltd., the main building of the institution and the necessary machinery could be arranged in such a short time. From the very beginning, instead of completing school studies, adult children and other deaf people deprived of education also started taking advantage of the institution. From the very beginning, arrangements were made for computers, embroidery, sewing. carpentry, packing boxes, knitting. plumbing and sanitary. lathe fabrication, screen printing. fitter cum welding industries. Initially, training was provided and the institution used to issue its own certificate. Deaf children had difficulty in geting jobs.In order for the tranees to get government recognized certificates, three classes were started with the help of Technical Education Board
Certificate Course in Computer and Artwork,Certificate Course in Electric Rewinding and Servicing, Certificate Course in Plumbing and Sanitary Works.
Three vocational courses were specially designed by the board for the deaf. And its 1st edition book was also prepared in the institute's press which was later given free of cost to the students of other districts of Gujarat. The trained students started getting jobs and settling down. Encouraged by the good results, three more classes were started,a new course syllabus was also prepared.
